Big News

It’s been a while since I sat down and wrote a blog post. And this time I have a good excuse. Jason and I have recently made a big decision and we are really excited about it. We have decided to sell our house! It’s been something that we have been thinking about for several months (at least I have!) and we finally took the first step and now have our house listed as of last week. There are a bunch of reasons and I hope to fill you in later but for now let’s just say that I am excited to move forward and see what the future holds for us.

When we bought our house we really thought we would live here for forever. We don’t enjoy the moving process and this house had everything we could ever need. We never thought we would move. But I guess you should never say never because here we are :)

For the last couple of week we were working non stop trying to get our house ready to list. We have finally finished all of those little and big outstanding projects that have been on our lists for years and got them all done in less than 2 weeks! Crazy how much you can get done when you just go for it. I have taken photos of all of our progress and I will show you some of the finishing touches we have done. Everything looks so nice now I’m afraid to mess it up!

And we’re off! On a new adventure. Pray for us if you want. We would appreciate it :)

Painting The Kitchen

Ahhh… more painting! I feel like that is all I do these days. But it feels so productive. There is such a drastic change when you paint a room and it feels good. Instant update with very little fuss and money. The best kind of project :)

Our kitchen was one of the first things painted in our house and has lasted the longest. Usually, I feel the need to choose a new color in about a couple of years but the color that was in the kitchen lasted 6 years! Ya, I’m pretty impressed with myself for making it that long :) The last couple of months though, I have been itching to paint in there. I could just feel the urge building and building. Finally, I mentioned it to Jason again how much I wanted to paint the kitchen. He told me to just go down to Sherwin Williams and buy paint. So I did, that very same day :)

Here is a photo of the before:

Now, I admit, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the before. In fact, I’m sure some of you will like the before better. But I was ready for a change…

I painted it white :) Surprise, surprise. I have been painting everything white lately! I can’t help it. It’s a sickness. I wish I could paint everything white sometimes. And usually, when I paint something white, I don’t regret it. The other culprit? Pinterest. That’s right, I blame it all on Pinterest. I keep seeing (and pinning, check out my kitchen board here) all of these beautiful white kitchens and I want that. So I decided to finally act.

I still have some things to work on in here. I don’t really have many knickknacks sitting around but what I do have are pretty neutral since I had neutral colors going on before. Now I’m hoping to spice it up a bit and add some pops of color. Now I’m in the phase of trying to decide what exactly I want and where.

I did add the metal bins to the bottom of the island which I really love. And aren’t the flowers pretty? My neighbor brought them over for me the other day. I love peonies!

Another dream of mine is to tile the whole back splash in white tile. Ahhh, maybe someday :)

I did add the little yellow pot up on the top shelf for a little color. I love it there, now I just need to incorporate more!

My “D” stripe towel is from West Elm. I actually got it to go in the newly improved laundry room but decided to let it hang out in the kitchen for a little while first because I love it so much. But now that I think about it, that would be a great way to add some color. I will have to be on the hunt for the perfect hand towel.

I don’t normally show this in photos but this is the pendant light that hangs over the island. When we redid the kitchen, we found this at the Pottery Barn outlet for $15! It was especially awesome because it was the exact type of light fixture I was looking for at the time. We also found one to go above the breakfast nook at Home Depot that was very similar but it was black. I left it that way this whole time and then I finally decided to paint it so they would match better.

Much better! Now they look like they belong together. A little sprainting does wonders!

So, this room is getting closer to completion. There are still a few things left to do. You know how when you live with something undone, you just start to forget about it? So I decided to make a list so I couldn’t ignore it any longer! Here is my list:

  1. Repaint the ceiling. We got some water damage from our leaky roof. We fixed the problem and so now we have to repaint. I’ve bought the paint, now to get it done.
  2. Add crown molding. Something we always planned on doing but never did :)
  3. Add a small piece of molding next to the pantry where it’s missing. Another thing that has been on my to-do list for forever (you can kind of see it in the first photo)!
  4. Add pops of color.
  5. Tile the back splash.
  6. Add corner round trim to the floor. Not super noticeable, but I notice that it needs to be done.
  7. Add surrounds to the can lights. We had the can lights professionally put in and they didn’t come with the surround covers. We didn’t even know they were missing for quite a while. Now that I know it, it bugs me!
  8. Hang a shelf. Hopefully this little DIY will be completed soon :)
  9. Add some sort of blinds or something to the breakfast nook. Just to make it feel a bit cozier.

Okay, I think that about covers it. Or at least it’s close to a complete list. Hopefully it won’t take another 6 years to get it all done :) But ya, it probably will. Haha!

Have a great weekend everyone! I will be posting my Everyday Life post soon so I don’t get behind AGAIN!

Bedroom Switcheroo

Lately I have been bouncing back and forth between a bunch of different projects around the house. I think I have about 7 or 8 projects going on all at once right now. That might drive some people crazy. But I thrive on it, in fact, I love it! It’s nice to have multiple things to do. Today, I finished one project that I have been working on. I told you that I was making some changes to the bedroom, now I will show you some photos of what I have been up to.

Remember where we left the master bedroom? I had just gotten a new duvet cover from West Elm.

Well, I finally came to the conclusion that it was time to switch the bed. Now, don’t get me wrong. I love my bed. My Dad made it for us as a wedding present and it has been in our room for the past 12 years. But after getting my new duvet, I thought that it would be nice to make a switch for a while and put the sleigh bed in the guest room and the headboard from the guest room into our room.

When I brought the headboard over, I also switched out the fabric from black to white. We also hung it higher on the wall to make it feel more grand.

I LOVE the headboard in here. It fits much better with the style that I am going for. Now I am trying to talk Jason into making a platform type base so I can get rid of the dust ruffle since I’m not really into it :)

Not only does this headboard look better in here, the sleigh bed looks better in the guest room. So it’s a happy day all the way around. I will show you the guest room later. I still have to make the bed in there :)

You may notice that the duvet is not as fluffy. That’s because once the temperatures start to warm up it gets to hot for us. So, since it’s been about 80 degrees here lately, we just took the duvet out and leave it on as a lightweight blanket.

One project down, more to go :) I still need to figure out what I’m going to do about pillows and the curtains. I’m also wondering if I should paint the nightstands. I’m not sure about that yet. Any suggestions?!

Around The House

Lately, I have been finding myself just doing little things around the house. Nothing major, just tying up loose ends. It feels good. It’s nice to get some of those things done and be able to check them off my list. For example, I’ve made a couple of changes to the bedroom, started planning my garden for spring, and continued painting in the laundry room. Not earth shattering, I know. But still, it’s good :)

Since none of these things require a post of their own, I thought I would just lump a couple of things together today. Because you know how I like to document. Every. Little. Thing :)

Remember the post when I opened up my kitchen cupboards and let you peek inside? I had one cupboard next to the stove top that was a mess. And I didn’t like it:

All of the pans were in a jumbled pile stacked one on top of another. Drove me crazy! And yet, it was one of those things that I just never bought dividers to fix the problem. I don’t know why. I just didn’t really think about it that much until I was reaching for a pan :)

Then, back in October, I made a trip to Ikea and while there I finally got one. It practically leaped off the shelf into my cart. It had to come home with me :) I can’t remember how much it was but it was a two pack and I believe it was just a few dollars. Then I let them sit on a shelf for 4 months. Why oh why, did I wait so long?!

They were super simple to install. I just had to put 4 screws in place and I was done! Now, when I open up the cupboard I can easily pull out the pan I am looking for. Happy day!

Moving on… As you are all aware, I have been slowly adding to the gallery wall in the living room since I first started it in May of last year. It had some humble beginnings but as I keep adding to it, it gets fuller and fuller. Again, my goal is to fill the whole wall with frames and my requirements are: 1. Cheap frames (collected from thrift stores and clearances) 2. All plain, no fancy details 3. All white (I have been sprainting them to make them match). Click here for the last living room update which I showed the wall to see the difference between it and now:

Once again I struggled with getting a shot without glare and failed! Oh well!

See how much fuller it is getting?! I added 12 frames (I paid less than $10 for all of them!!) and it made such a huge difference. It’s super fun to get to add them and I’m hoping to add some more soon. I’m on the hunt for some more larger sizes to fill in some of the gaps. Ultimately, I really want more photos up there but when I put these up I just put random stuff in them for now. Some of them might get changed.

I gathered up “artwork” from all over to put in the frames. Pages from old books, cards, diy art… nothing was off limits if I thought it would look good up there :)

A cupboard divider and a gallery wall. Two little projects, but they make me smile when I see them. Even small changes are good changes, right?!

New Bedroom Duvet

While I was in Oregon, the most wonderful package arrived at our house! Before I left I ordered a duvet cover from West Elm. As if coming home wasn’t fun enough, that made it even more fun!

Previously, we had a white duvet cover which we had gotten as a wedding present 12 years ago. I loved it when we got it but it was starting to show it’s age. Really, that is a pretty long time for a duvet cover or, actually, anything in this house! (There really aren’t that many decorative things that have had that kind of longevity for me.) We also alternated with a brown coverlet depending on the season. They both have had a good long run but it was time to switch it up. As soon as I saw the chevron duvet cover from West Elm earlier last year, I knew it had to be mine :) Then, it went on sale and the dream became a reality! Yay for me!!

Just as a reminder, here is the room with the white duvet:

And now, here is the new duvet:

Oh my, I am completely in love!! Now I need to work on some new pillows for this room. The previous pillows are striped and don’t really work anymore. Plus, I have been using them in the living room for a while now and so new pillows are definitely in order. I have some ideas, we shall see how they turn out. I also wouldn’t mind some new curtains (since the current ones are left over from another room anyway) and I have some other things I would like to tackle in this room. Isn’t it fun how things are always changing and evolving? I love that!

Also, looking at this photo, I realized I could have done a bit more primping. Oh well, it is what it is :) When I do a final reveal, with new pillows and everything, the cover will be free of wrinkles and the pillows will be to perfection. At least with this photo you get to see how we roll…

So stay tuned! It will be interesting to see what changes next time!
