DIY: Dipped Servingware

I recently did a super simple DIY and I wanted to share it with you. But first, a little disclaimer. This is not an amazing idea I came up with. It’s something that everyone has been doing lately and I just jumped on the bandwagon. And I’m okay with that :) Sometimes you just gotta try things out for yourself!

Has everyone been noticing these awesome painted servingware floating around on Pinterest these days?

Love the pastel colors. Pinned here. Found here.

These are for sale if you don’t want to make your own. Or if you want vintage wooden spoons. Pinned here. Found here.

Love the stripes. Pinned here. Found here.

I have even seen some done with regular silverware, also super cool…

I love how they don’t match and yet, because of the paint, they do :) Pinned here. Found here.

So what’s a girl to do? Well, duh! I had to make my own :) I really don’t think there is anything as simple as this project. If you can open a can of paint, you can make these.

First, I bought some salad utensils at the Dollar Tree. So, um, ya, they cost $1 for the set.

Next, I opened my can of paint and dipped them in. The hardest part was having the patience to wait for them to dry :)

I haven’t gotten a chance to use them yet but I can’t wait. I know I won’t be able to wash them in the dishwasher but since they don’t get used regularly, I don’t really care. Besides, they only cost $1! Wouldn’t these make a really fun DIY gift? I’m thinking I might have to go get some more so I can have multiple colors. Or stripes. Or zigzags. Or polka dots. Or all of the above :)

So head down to the Dollar Tree and get your own salad utensils and start dipping. Your salad will thank me!

In other news, I have been doing some spring cleaning here at my house and so I have been updating my shop with some stock that I would like to clear out. In an effort to do this, I have put these items on clearance! In the 5 years that I have had my Every Jot & Tittle shop I have never had a sale. So this is earth shattering people! Most everything is on clearance and most of it is 75% off. Once these items are gone I won’t be making any more of them. Plus, I am also adding some other items that I have found while spring cleaning and I will be adding more as the weeks go on as I continue cleaning things out. Things like garlands and such from parties I have thrown. Everything is marked really low so be sure to head over and get yourself a treat :)

Christmas Items 2011

Originally I had decided I wasn’t going to make anything new for every jot & tittle this year for the Christmas season. I have had a really busy fall and just wasn’t sure if I would have time. But, I couldn’t help myself and I squeezed in a bit of time to make a couple of mini books kits for the season. There are very limited in number this year so if you really want one, don’t wait too long! Here are some photos of the kit:

It is similar to last years kit with just some adjustments. I always have fun putting these together which is why I couldn’t help myself and I had to make some! While I was at it, I also made a couple tiny mini book kits. They are very similar to the kit above, just smaller and without most of the accessories. They would be fun for a Christmas present for a relative or if you just want to make a December Daily book but don’t have a lot of time.

The large kit measures 7″ x 5″ and the tiny kit measures 4″ x 3″. It really is cute! And I thought it would be fun to put some of the red numbers in the tiny kit too so I made some on a small scale. They are the cutest thing. Just like the popular larger ones, just tiny :)

And for a comparison:

Aren’t they adorable? I added a set of just the new tiny numbers to the shop as well. If you don’t want the kit but want the little numbers, there are some there. So if you are interested, head over to the shop for some ej&t goodness :)

Button Invitations

I’m so sorry I have been such a bad blogger lately. I have had so many things happening in life right now and last week was crazy! I was preparing for an event a church that was last night and so since I was working on it all week I had little time to post. The funny thing is, I had the post almost all ready to go on Friday and with having a mile long to-do list for the church event I simply forgot to post! So I will share it today with you instead.

Recently I made some invitations for a baby shower with a button theme for a client. She had been searching for some invitations but they all looked to cutesy. So I put my thinking cap on and here is what I came up with:

My client came up with the little rhyme, isn’t it cute? I hand drew the buttons digitally so they would be less cutesy. I think they turned out really sweet. The rhyme wrap slides off to reveal the invitation underneath.

I have gotten rid of some of the info so the invitation looks a little funny :)

And the back of the invitation had a bit of washi tape to secure the wrap in place. I can’t make anything without washi tape these days :)

Invitations are one of my favorite things to make. I love personalizing them for different occasions and seeing what is in my head come out on paper.

I know I was a bad blogger last week and the week before but it is just about to get worse I’m afraid. We are having some more company come this week and then next week we are going on vacation. I will do my best but don’t expect too much :) Thanks for hanging in there!!

New! Fabric Stickies!

Whew! I have been working on a new product lately and I was just able to finish it and get it in the shop!! There are some changes coming to every jot & tittle mostly because business has been very slow for me this year. Because of that, I am re-evaluating things and am planning on phasing out everything that is old to make way for new things. I’m still figuring out my game plan but I’m excited about it, I think it’s time for change. With that said, if you want any of the old stuff, you’d better get it soon because it won’t be in the shop for much longer. Although I will still happy to take requests.

Onto the new!! The way I get most of my ideas is because I personally want something for myself and I can’t find it so I make my own. Recently, I thought it would be really cool to have some fabric stickers made from some of these vintage fabrics I have lying around. So I set about to get it done! I have started by making a few different collections in a few shapes with the plan that I can always add more if I want to. Here is the circular version:

This is my favorite set (above)! I also made some that are using new fabrics:

And then I made this fun little flag using a circular sticker. I think it turned out really cute!!

There are also arrow fabric stickers in the shop:

This is what I made with an arrow sticker, a little calling card or business card:

And lastly, there are now tag shaped fabric stickers too!

With the tag shaped fabric sticker I adorned a thank you card:

So what do you think? I love all of these fun patterns and I have a feeling I am going to be sticking them everywhere!! Get yours at the shop!

Every Jot & Tittle: Mini Book Color Kits

Recently, I have been working hard on some new designs for every jot & tittle. I really do love the design process but it requires a lot of time and then I neglect other things around the house like projects. A bunch of the new things aren’t ready yet but I have just listed some new mini book kits in the shop today and so I thought I would share them with you.

color kit green 2

I really love things when they are grouped into color. I’m not sure why but it makes me smile. So that was the driving force behind these mini book kits. Each kit includes a little book (5×7) full of vintage and upcycled papers along with a bunch of other fun papers like flash cards and such.

color kit green 1

Then, they also come with fun accessories like ribbons, doilies, buttons, flowers, fabric, game pieces, and other random things that I have been collecting for a while thinking they would be perfect for a mini book kit. Each kit is different but packed full of cool stuff.

color kit white

I really love these kits but I only made 2 of each color so I’ve decided not to use one for myself. I suppose I could create another one for me if I really want to :)

color kit pink

There are seven different colors, pink, green, orange, red, blue, yellow, and neutrals. I’m not sure if I really have a favorite but I do love the red one :)

color kit yellow

Take a look! They are all in the shop now! I still have designing left to do on my other new stuff but I’m getting there. I don’t even have a date yet for when it will be done but after working on it for days straight I think I’m going to take a bit of a break and work on some stuff around here so I have something more to blog about :) Plus, my fingers are itching to do some projects!

I also run a little online shop called every jot & tittle where I sell handmade paper products. Take a look and leave me a comment to say hi! (Photo by Heather Smith.)
