Sew Merry: Tree Poster
Well, the countdown is on! We officially only have 2 weeks until Christmas and it will be here before we know it. I look forward to this season all year long. It’s a busy season but wonderful and I intend to enjoy it to the fullest!
Since I love to change things around the house for the holidays, I like to include artwork as well. Many times I take down the regular stuff that is on the walls and put up something different. One of those places that always gets that treatment is the console table in our dining room. I took down what was previously there and replaced it for the season:
I have seen these tree posters and have saved a few in my pinterest files (here and here). Since I obviously liked them so much I figured I should try my hand at making one.
Here is how I did it:
I started by taping a sheet of kraft shipping paper to the wall. Then I drew a guidline in pencil using a level (only because I don’t own a yardstick) to create the basic shape I wanted.
Then I simply used my metallic paint pen to freehand the tree, staying within my guidelines. I started with a gold paint marker and realized it didn’t show up very well so then I went over it again with the silver paint pen. You can see the variation about halfway through :) My paper is pretty thick but you will want to make sure your pen doesn’t bleed through before you start drawing or you will end up with a tree all year long on your wall :)
Once it was dry, I used glue dots to adhere it to the wall and then I used decorative tape to tape the corners just for fun. Next, using glue dots again, I stuck the yarn on it to make it look like garland.
The garland serves dual purpose. Now I have been hanging my Christmas cards from it with tiny clothes pins. I’m not sure how many I will be able to hang before the glue dots aren’t strong enough but I suppose we will find out :)
As you can see, I have a snow globe winter wonderland too! I loved the one at church so much that I wanted my own! Mine is more of a mixture of objects though.
I used the burlap runner I made from last year. And searched through my whole house for jars and other containers made of glass.
I emptied out jars from pretty much every room in the house. It’s going to be a bummer having to put it all back after Christmas. But it was worth it, right?!
After I scoured the house for jars, then I scoured my Christmas stash for small objects that would fit in them. That was the fun part :) I used the little village that I sprainted last year along with the tiny pinecones from the year before.
This little deer is my favorite. I have a few little animals (among other toys) in a toy box for when there are kids at our house and I borrowed him from there. I told you I took stuff from everywhere! Nothing was off limits if it would fit in a jar!
This little jar is really tiny and so is the ornament in it. I think it’s pretty cute!
And that’s my little snow globe village and tree poster. What do you think? Do you change your artwork for Christmas? Or am I the only one?!

Beautiful!
This reminds me of when I lived in a tiny apartment in North Hollywood with a bunch of roommates. We wanted a tree but had no room (or money) for one so we used garland taped to the wall to make a tree shape, pushed the dining room table underneath, and laid out a tree skirt.
Still one of the coolest trees I’ve ever had.
