DIY: Everyone Loves Neon

It seems like every time I look at a magazine or read a blog lately there is something about neon colors. They are everywhere right now and I have to admit, I like them too even though they remind me of my childhood and neon spandex. Despite that memory, I have been wanting to add something neon to my house and to my wardrobe. Just a little something. Nothing too crazy but just a little something to show my support for this trend :) I’m still waiting to add it to my house, I’m not sure where I want it yet but just recently I have added it to my wardrobe in a small dose.

I found this purse at a thrift store and I thought it would be the perfect way to add a bit of neon:

It’s not too great here. It’s just a small clutch but I thought it had some potential. First, I cleaned it really good. Then I taped it all up except I left the brown leather-ish parts exposed. Next I spray painted it white to cover up the brown. Then, I began painting…

I just used some regular craft paint from the store in the neon color of yellow. It goes on pretty thin so I had to do a bunch of coats, probably at least 10. The good thing is, it dries really fast so you don’t have to wait long in between coats. I just read a book while waiting :)

I also spray painted the strap white, but since it’s removable (and it didn’t turn out that great), I think I will just leave it off and use it as a clutch.

I would still love to have another neon accessory in pink, I just have to figure out what that might be. Maybe a belt or something. I also love what A Merry Mishap did with these shoes… so cute! I’m just not sure if I have any shoes that I want to do that to. I might have to scour the thrift stores until I find something suitable :)
