The Dungeon
Okay, so this is a bit embarrassing. I’m about to show you Jason’s office. I have never shown this room before because basically, it’s a train wreck. It’s located in the basement of our house and we have never done anything to it at all. Except fill it with stuff. When we first moved into our house 5 years ago it was the dumping ground and the place we kept our boxes that hadn’t been unpacked. We slowly cleaned it out and Jason thought it would make a suitable office because it is a quiet place away from the rest of the house. So that leads us to today. I really have no excuse for this but I’m hopefully going to do something about it soon :)
This is what you would see when you walk through the door. Although it’s in the basement, it is nice that it has a window. The raggedy old footstool needs to go and I would like a different chair. We also use this as dumping ground for our printers which we really need to get rid of. Before we moved in there was wood paneling on this wall but there was some water damage to it and so it was removed. That’s what those extra trim pieces around the window are for and it’s also why the shelves don’t extend all the way to the wall anymore.
This horrible disaster mess is my fault. I just keep stuff down here that I’m not using and I’m ready to pitch it all! It’s definitely going to be reorganized and a bunch of it tossed out. Everything will be getting a nice paint job as well. And wouldn’t it be cool to have a murphy bed in the center? That way if we had extra guests we would have more beds (since currently we only have 2 beds in the whole house).
We got Jason’s desk at a thrift store for $25 and it is a beast! I love it though and think it would be super sweet with a new paint job although I’m still trying to decide what color. Maybe navy blue. Do you like the printer stand (cardboard box)? It is functional but I have something else that will soon replace it.
There were nails already in the brick when we moved in and so I use them to hang artwork that I’m not currently using elsewhere in the house. When this room is all decorated and finished, I’m going to miss that storage space :)
This is the cleanest side of the room. The door leads to the rest of the basement. It is also where we keep our pull-up bar. I’m not a huge fan of wood paneling but it will look so much better when I slap some paint on there.
And I can’t forget this bad boy. The light fixture in this room is sweet! That baby’s gotta go :)
So yes, I have a lot of work ahead of me but it’s doable, right? I think I will start off with painting and take it from there. I have some ideas on how I want the room to look but it’s all going to depend on our budget and so I will just have to take it a step at a time.
When it’s finished I want it to feel masculine and a bit industrial. I’m working on a mood board and will hopefully share it later on this week. Until then, do you have any ideas for me? I always love to hear what you think because you always have such great ideas! Keep them coming!!

Kellie,
If ya’ll are up to it, I have the coolest DIY Murphy bed instructions. I can scan and email to you if you like. Also, I saw this awesome thing at a home show once where they built a Murphy bed and then put bookcases in front of it (on tracks like a closet). So when the bed was up – the bookshelves slide in front and covered it and when the bed was down – you slide the bookshelves to either side of it. Make sense? I thought it was a really cool and useful solution to the storage versus extra bed issue.
