Sewing: ipod Case

Happy Valentine’s Day! I hope everyone has a wonderful day filled with the people you love! I woke up to breakfast prepared for me by my valentine and then we are going to spend the rest of the day together. It looks to be a good day :)

Jason and I each have an ipod touch and we use them all the time. But, neither one of us has a case for them. Just the other day as I was throwing mine in my purse for the millionth time, I thought it would be nice to make a case for it. And then I thought Jason might benefit from one also. So on Saturday I whipped up a couple of ipod cases for us and gave his to him today for v-day.

This one is mine :)

To make these, it’s pretty simple. First I traced the ipod onto a piece of paper. After cutting it out, I laid it on top of some gray felt and cut out two pieces a bit larger than your pattern (but not much).

Next, I sewed along the top of one of the pieces with contrasting thread. Then I sewed a button on.

Next, I cut a strip of brown leather and sewed it on the other piece of the felt. Then, I sewed across the top from edge to edge as well.

Then, I joined the two pieces of felt together and sewed all the way around. I also created a little leather tag and using a screwdriver and hammer I made it spell love for Jason’s and a heart for mine. If you want to include one, while you are sewing around the outside, insert it on one side and sew through it.

Lastly, cut a hole in the leather where the button will go through using an exacto knife. And you are done! Now maybe I won’t scratch my ipod when I throw it into my purse :)

What about you? Do you have any grand plans for Valentine’s day? Do tell!!
