More Changes To The Dining Room
As soon as the holidays are over, I take my decorations down. I can’t stand to have them up past Christmas, it drives me crazy! Plus, since all the areas are then void of any decor, it gives me a chance to rearrange things. It’s kind of fun :) This year it was even more fun than usual in the dining room because I added a couple of new additions. Here is what the room looked like last time we visited it.
No, the table is still not done, I promise I will post pictures when it is. But some other fun things have changed. Take a look:
I got a new pendant light fixture for Christmas. That has been on my list for a very long time! I love how it looks in the room. And for those of you that loved the old red chandelier, don’t worry, it will be re-purposed elsewhere.
Did you notice? I also got some new curtains from Ikea. You can’t beat the price, $30 for two! So I also got a set for the living room as well. Now I feel like the rooms flow better together. I will show you pictures of the living room later.
I added a little vignette to the center of the table. I got the table runner for free at a store here in town that was going out of business. I was buying a few other things and the guy threw it in for free because it was broken. Guess what it used to be? A window shade. The mechanics didn’t work so they couldn’t sell it. I think it works great as a table runner!
This side of the room is very similar to what it used to be. I added a new flower arrangement.
And, I recently brought this little guy home with me from the thrift store for $1.50:
I seriously can’t pass up white ceramic animals!
And for the room overview:
I still need to work on the shelves on the right side of the room but I haven’t decided what to put there yet. It will come!
What do you think? Do you like the changes or did you like how it used to be better? Do you take your Christmas decor down immediately or do you like to wait? And, do you use it as an opportunity to redecorate like I do?

I’ve had a hard time trying to figure out what to decorate with between Christmas and spring… you’ve done it beautifully! As far as my preference for your dining room; I LOVED the funkiness of the red chandelier because it gave a WHOLE different eclectic feel to the rest of the room (which is my style of decorating). But I LOVE how you redecorated. It’s a lot more monochromatic with the different shades of white, tan, and brown…it is beautiful!
Oh, and in response to a couple posts ago, I would love if you could do a little tutorial about how to make a lamp out of a curvy flower vase. I feel like it should be easy, but I’m too scared to try and I have WAY too many curvy vases!
I love this re-do. So gorgeous. I did LOVE the red chandelier so much I painted my own :) but I am equally in love with the pendant lamp. This room feels more complete somehow though I know the table will be the piest-de-resistance (the best feature!) can not wait!
It looks so good!
I am loving the redesign. And wondering how if we live so close, we’ve never met.
Also, I’m working in Cleveland now, so lemme know if you’d like to get coffee sometime :)
You do such a good job! Looks like it came right out of a magazine.
I’m looking for a new light to go over my kitchen table and remembered that I really liked yours. I think I’m going to copy you :) What is the finish on the base/cord? In your photos it looks like it is silver, but in the photos it looks almost black.
Hi Sarah,
The base and cord that I have is silver. When I got mine, WE didn’t
offer any other colors even though the picture showed that it was
black. The one I have is this:

They now offer a black one as well:
