Making Merry: Pinecone Garland

This year I did not put up our regular Christmas tree. Instead, I only used the little white tree that I bought last year. Here is a couple pictures of it decorated:

tree 2

Very simple, I know, but I love it! Most everything on it is light colored so it’s hard to tell in this picture but there are only 2 different garlands on it and 5 paper ornaments :) I like it sparse! Everything that is on it, I made this year. I will take the next couple of days to explain how and what I did.

The first garland I made was a tiny pinecone garland. Jason and I were jogging in our neighborhood a few weeks ago and Jason noticed a large tree in our neighbor’s front yard with a ton of tiny pinecones on it. It was love at first sight for me! I went back a few days later with a bucket and asked the neighbor if I could help myself to some of their pinecones. Once my container was filled, I started making my garland.

This is probably the easiest and quickest garland to make. The hardest part is finding the right tree that has these pinecones :) I used sewing thread (off white) and wrapped the string around each pinecone at the base. The scales keep the thread in place. Continue stringing until it’s the desired length. Easy peasy!

Now go find a tree with pinecones and make your own :)
