Making Merry: Chalkboard Ornaments
I had the idea for these ornaments a few months ago and I am thrilled with how they turned out.
I thought it would be cool to have ornaments that I could write on. Not only can I use them as ornaments but they would also be really cute to use as gift tags or tie them around a napkin and use them as place cards/napkin rings. Or, you could use them how I used them, I hung them up with my stockings to label each one with names.
To make these, I went to my local craft store and found some wood die cuts in different shapes. I think they cost about $.25 each. I drilled a hole in the top of each one and then applied chalkboard spray paint. Let them dry really well before writing on them! Then I threaded twine through the hole along with a chunky button. I ended up making 12 tags so I will still probably use the rest elsewhere this season. I also think the leaf shapes would be cute for Thanksgiving… maybe next year :)
And that concludes the projects I have accomplished for the mantel. Here are the final pictures:
Since my stocking holders are picture frames, I needed something to fill them so I went to vintage printable and printed some pictures of evergreen branches to put in each frame. I also used several yards of a sheer fabric to swirl around up there. I only had three stockings and we will have 5 people here for Christmas this year (my parents and little brother are coming, yay!!) so Jason and I and my Mom and Dad have to share a stocking. I don’t think anyone will mind!
Next up: a paper wreath…
