Cabinet Transformation

Isn’t paint amazing? I love its transforming abilities! I just wanted to show you a little project I did last week using paint.

Three years ago, a good friend of mine built this cabinet for me using an old window for the door. She didn’t paint it but left the decision of paint color up to me. And so, it has been sitting in my craft room housing my scrapbook stuff for the last three years… unpainted. For some reason, I just couldn’t make a decision on what color would be the best. I usually know exactly what I want but this little cabinet stumped me. All the other furniture in my craft room is white and so I thought a color would be nice for this little guy but I just couldn’t land on a specific one. Here’s the before picture:

Then, last week I had an idea. I removed all of my scrapbooking stuff and took it down to the basement and got to work painting it. I finally had decided on a color… black! Surprised? I was too. I never thought I would paint it black. But the decision was really made for me because my idea was to relocate it to the family room. There is a little spot next to the stairs that has always felt empty and this little cabinet is perfect there. Since the family room is all white (with a few black accents) the natural color of choice is black. And I couldn’t be happier with it!

What do you think? Did I make the right choice? After this picture was taken I filled it with books (I arranged them by color, it looks awesome!). Now all it needs is a plant perched on top :)
