Fun with Fabric

Last week I put the scrapbooking supplies away and went to work on fabric projects. I barely know how to sew and usually hate it, but my Amy Butler fabric (I actually bought it to use on my scrapbooking projects) was begging me to make it into something more useful. So I cleared off my craft table and used it for sewing. I sewed, and sewed, and sewed… And I loved it! I think it’s the first time in my adult life that I’ve actually enjoyed sewing and I figured out the reason why. Usually I only take time to sew when I need to hem pants or something equally boring. This time I was sewing for fun and with wonderful colorful prints. I realized it’s not so bad and just may have to continue!

Here are few projects I did last week:

apron
My friend had a birthday so I made an apron (most of it is not Amy Butler fabric, just the pink parts). I liked it so much I made one for myself as well (not pictured). I like that it’s double sided.

tote bag
A simple tote bag to take to the store so I don’t have to use plastic bags. There are two problems with it. I keep forgetting to put it in the car so that I will actually USE it and I don’t think I will be able to get my husband to use it!

push pins
Okay, so there isn’t actually any sewing involved in this project but it still falls under the category of “fun with fabric.” I made these super sweet tacks for my new bulletin board. I love them. I’m going to make more :)
Added: here’s a great tutorial on making the fabric covered tacks. So easy!

potholders
I also have a plethora of potholders that were starting to look worn out. So, I just recovered them! An easy solution and I love them!

before and after
A before and after shot (I hope you can tell what is the after!).

Now that I’ve started all this messing around, I just want to make more things! Like I needed another hobby addiction!

And one more thing to leave you with… I am working on new product for June. Here is a sneak peek of the prototypes that are starting to come around:
