My Little Fur-Person

This may article may induce gag reflexes among some of our readers. My husband, for example, would be one of them. You see, I am about to tell you a story about my faithful friend, my cat, Sydney.

I love cats but I didn’t know that I loved cats until I got one of my own. When I was in high school my little brother and I begged my Mom to let us get a cat. So she gave in if we could possibly find a white kitten with blue eyes and it had to be free. So I looked in the newspaper and the first place I called had free blue-eyed white kittens! Needless to say, she came home with us that day. I loved having a kitty but when I got married, our apartment wouldn’t allow us to have pets. So, for four years I didn’t have a cat around. When we bought our first house, the first thing I did was look for a kitten. This time I decided I wanted a gray kitten. I found the perfect kitty in April when she was only a week old. I got to go visit her but I couldn’t take her home for another 5 or 6 weeks. During this time, I had to decide on a name for her. I wanted to name her after a city so she became Sydney.

Surprisingly, Jason and I both enjoy having her around (although Jason will never admit it). She is very playful and desires a lot of attention from us. She follows us around the house wherever we go, hoping we will chase her. She loves stuffed animals and often times we find her toys around the house after she drags them there. She also does crazy things like jump in the refridgerator. One time I didn’t realize she had jumped in and I almost left her in there but luckily, right before I left the house, I heard a small meow and found her! All of this to say she makes us laugh and I love having a cat in the house.

When we moved here to Tennessee in March I was so thankful I didn’t have to leave Sydney behind. I had to leave most of my family and friends but I got to take my best friend (Jason) and my kitty. I didn’t realize how nice it would be to have a familiar little gray face around in an unfamiliar place. I always thought it was silly how much people love their pets until it was me!

Well, now that we spend most of our time at home with our little gray fur-person, she sure enjoys all the attention. In fact, she has become our little helper. When we do chores, she insists on being right there with us. Laundry, ironing, and sweeping are her favorite chores. She doesn’t really like vaccuming because of the sound it makes. She also really likes to scrapbook with me. She makes sure to eat my paper and double-sided tape. The other day she sat on the table watching me for quite awhile while I made a page about my nephew.

So now that you have been introduced to her, when you see pictures on our website you will realize that she is not just our cat, but our friend. Yes, I am now one of those pathetic people who love their pet!
